زمین بازی, or 'Playground' in English, was developed as a response to the Taliban's resurgence in Afghanistan and the draconian rules that have been reimposed on the country's people. In particular, Playground is based on the refusal to allow young women and girls to re-enter education; a fundamental human right.
To create a functional Dari-Persian typeface, we started by looking at the dynamic forms and movement of children at play. This freedom provided the basis for the isolated letters of each character in the Dari alphabet. Without an immediate end to their ban on education, women in Afghanistan will be disadvantaged for decades to come. Playground seeks to provide a strong and distinctive aesthetic that has its roots in the purity and joy of schooling for all.
All of the work that we do is completely not-for-profit.
However, if you would like to show your appreciation for the work we do, or are just in a giving-kinda-mood, please consider donating to our curated charity-of-choice for each campaign.
Imagine downloading a free typeface and helping to make a different in less that five minutes. Trust us; it's a good feeling.
